Self-Direction is based on the belief that people with disabilities know best how to plan their care by supervising and directing their own services. “Self-direction” is a model that incorporates how, when, and from whom their services and supports will be delivered.” Self-Directed Services (SDS) is an option for those who do not elect the traditional provider delivery model. SDS is funded through the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) under DDA's Waiver programs. People who select the self-direction model may hire support to help them handle certain administrative responsibilities, monitor their budget allocations, and provide human resources information and assistance.

Individuals can choose to create their own path in life, know what works best for them. With the support of a team of individuals to help them implement their plans, a Support Broker can assist by serving as a human resource agent to help promote their goals, find work, live safely, learn new skills, and engage in activities in their community.

Support Brokerage services are provided as part of a collaborative team effort to support and provide customized services for individuals and their families to deliver services that are personal and specific to their desired goals and ambitions. Services will be supported by the individual person-centered plan.
Linda is a Support Broker. She is the mother of an adult son with autism. She is a parent surrogate and advocate for people with developmental disabilities and their families. She advocates for all individuals and participants in the Community Based Waiver Programs who choose Self-Direction through the Maryland DDA. Linda received her B.S., from the University of Maryland and is certified in autism spectrum disorders. AC22151278 IBCCES. After serving 37 years as an Analyst in the U.S. Government, Linda retired and founded Vista Choice Supports. She knows the struggles and challenges that people with developmental disabilities and their families face every day in acquiring resources and supports. She is a passionate believer in self-determination and those who choose Self-direction services to live their best life. Linda served as Board member of One The World Center for Autism in Maryland for seven years and a Court Appointed Special Advocate for kids in foster care. Linda was awarded The Governor's Citation in 2006 for her service as a Court Appointed Special Advocate.
